Even as a long-time non-sports fan, I can agree with his very succint summary of Why Sports Matter: 

"You can put too much of your emotional life in the hands of people who don't know you and have no responsibility for you, but I think sports fandom is a fantastic gift with almost immeasurable value. It's a proxy for real life, but better. It renews itself, it's constantly happening in real time. There are conflicts that seem to carry real consequences but at the end of the day don't - it's war where nobody dies. It's a proxy for all our emotions and desires and hopes, I mean, heck, what's not to like about sports?"

1/10/10: January included a trip to the Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve in the Oakland hills. I was expecting an active volcano, but my disappointment was quickly swept away thanks to the marginally entertaining labyrinth paths. 

2/11/10: In February I saw a Citroën DS which has to be the most fake futuristic car ever. Recently I saw one in The 10th Victim.

4/19/10: On my birthday Anna and Baimba did some clever hair-trick at La Pinata in Alamenda. 

4/24/10: Kris and I had an epic Fresno weekend which included a pretty great turn-out at the Clovis Rodeo.

6/3/10: KKMM starring in Newsies. 

6/16/10: Merle Haggard at the Mountain Winery was everything I thought it would be.

7/29/10: Not sure which North Beach date this was, but Kris in front of American Zoetrope suddenly felt very European. 

7/31/10: Jenness made this bomb-ass cake for someone's birthday.  

8/10/10: In August a love affair began. 

 8/27/10: KKMM is very well read.

I know - crazy! Since pictures are only fun if you share them, and since I hate facebook, here are the last couple of years (from Oakland to SF) in pictures. 

1/17/09: KKMM comes home! She had just gotten spayed and as you can see was really digging the Elizabethan collar of shame.  

3/20/09: Friends gather at Anna and Baimba's for drinks and dinner. I think this was the night "pushover" really got started. 

4/18/09: First time in Las Vegas at that fremont street experience thing. In the future you watch TV on the ceiling. 

7/11/09: On a bizarre trip to El Cerrito's "Playland-Not-At-The-Beach", we discovered "Bride of Pinbot", and our lives were never the same again.  

9/22/09: In September I fed a donkey on my lunch break. 

8/14/09: The great pinball craze of '09 continues as Kris and Anna battle it out at Lucky Ju Ju in Alameda. 

10/24/09: Best. Picture. Ever. I pieced this costume together for Halloween but it looked way better on my grandpa. 

12/05/09: Kyle and I threw a Christmachannukwanzakuh party that included deviled eggs which looked a lot like pac man ghosts. 

12/06/09: On a day hike to Point Reyes, David attemps to figure out the elusive "loose bun" hair technique on Kelly. 

12/23/09: My brother really has the best taste in hats. You'd be surprised how great the selection is at Fresno Ag Hardware.
